Raise your hand if you bought a bike during the pandemic!
I did. Well, I had one bought for me that first Mother's Day in 2020. We rode bikes all up and down the neighborhood, driving all the dogs crazy on the block. It was so much fun. Unfortunate to say but that bike has collected a lot of dust over the last several months. One flat tire and a twisted wheel well later, and here we are.
May, while also being Mental Health Awareness month is National Bike Month. Promoted by the League of American Bicyclists, it's a great way to promote the many different benefits of biking! They also pick one week a month to encourage people to bike to work. While that may not work for us commuters here in the Metroplex, it's still a really fun way to encourage people to get out of their cars and enjoy some fresh air.
Biking is also a great way to improve and diversify your fitness routine, as well as improve your mental health. A two for one! "The League of American Bicyclists provides resources to help you and local organizations in your area plan an event, and each year the number and diversity of Bike Month celebrations continues to grow, accelerating the momentum around bicycling nationwide," according to their website.
Let's get out there this summer and travel on two wheels instead of four!
Whether you're biking around White Rock Lake or on the many trails in and around Arlington, biking is a great way to spend some time together outdoors and connect with friends and family.
